Edson Martin French (1844-1906) was a farmer in Jackson, Susquehanna County, PA when he enlisted. His 17 January 1863 letter, written from camp near Fredericksburg, pleads "Would to God, that this war might come to an end." With a possibly unrelated 1864 Pennsylvania receipt, unidentified small photograph of a Union soldier (unmounted), and small printed prayer card.
