Additional Details

Daniel E. Sickles (1819-1914) was best known as a Union general in the Civil War; he lost a leg at the Battle of Gettysburg. Before the war, he served as a United States Congressman from New York, and was acquitted in a murder trial using the temporary insanity defense.
