[John Reekie.] [Ruins of Gaines Mill.] The building had been used as a hospital during the Battle of Gaines Mill three years prior; note the skeleton in foreground. Published in Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War, II:93. [April 1865.]

[Timothy O'Sullivan.] [Johnson's Mill, Petersburg, Virginia.] Published in Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War, II:80. [May, 1865.]

[Barnard & Gibson.] [Manassas Junction.] Shows a major Confederate camp shortly after its abandonment; lacking an inch from one corner. Published in Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War, I:10. [March 1862.]

[James Gardner.] [Breaking Camp, Brandy Station, Virginia.] A lone Black soldier stands among the remnants of a Union winter camp. Published in Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War, II:62: "The deserted quarters of Gen. Sharp, Chief of the Secret Service of the Army of the Potomac, at Brandy Station, Virginia. The tents have been removed, and the sketch depicts the scene when the camping ground, which had been occupied by headquarters during the winter, is being abandoned for the spring campaign. In the back-ground are the stalls for the staff horses, and the stockade or 'bull pen' for prisoners arrested by the Provost Marshal General." [May 1864].
