Class album belonging to H.F. Picking, with 46 photographs by J.L. Lovell of Amherst, Massachusetts. Includes a view of the school ship Constitutional, 10 scenes of the campus, and autographed portraits of officers, instructors and students (one per page) and blank pages interleafed. Salted paper prints, the scenes are 4x6 1/4 inches (10.1x15.8 cm.), and vignetted portraits approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm.) square. 4to, gilt-lettered morocco, light edgewear; hinges starting; with "H.F. Picking" on the backstrip; all edges gilt.

Additional Details

Henry F. Picking (1840-1899) had an illustrious career in the U.S. Navy during both the Civil War and in the decades after. In 1898, he was promoted to Commodore and shortly after, Rear Admiral. He was also Commandant of the Boston Navy Yard.
