Approximately 169 professional street survey photographs of Cleveland, thoughtfully composed and inadvertently documenting the changing, modern landscape.
Featuring numerous images both utilitarian and complex in composition, working to document a specific time and place, while neatly mapping land lots and buildings throughout the heavily populated city. Repeatedly depicted throughout the collection are clustered groups of graphic advertising and signage, alongside early automobiles, and hoards of children playing in the streets. Silver prints, the images measuring 4 1/2x6 1/2 inches (11.4x16.5 cm.), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, each with detailed location captions and dates in the negative, and with expanded locations and land lot surveying markers and numeric notations, in ink, on recto. 1922-24
