Album entitled Pictures Submitted for Use in the Accident-Prevention Course for Bituminous Coal Mining.
With approximately 90 photographs documenting various facets of the mining process from soot-covered workers in the mineshafts pushing coal-filled minecars to accidents resulting from explosions; with photographs made both under and above ground in Alabama, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Silver prints, the images measuring 3 3/4x3 1/2 to 7 3/4x9 1/2 inches (9.5x8.9 to 19.7x24.1 cm.), mounted recto only with linen hinges to yellow pages, most with a number in the negative, and typed captions on verso. Oblong 4to, black leatherette twin-bolt binding. Circa 1927

WITH--Group of 75 loose photographs related to the Woodward No. 3 Shaft and others documenting the operations of the Raimund Ore Mine. With views depicting clean-up after a gas explosion accident, others depicting miners preparing dynamite blasts and the removal of coal (many with African American laborers), exterior scenes of buildings, and related interior views with large turbines and heavy machinery.
