Additional Details

a stunning work. number 49 of 250 copies signed by rochas and marchand. Originally issued in 46 separate fascicles in decorative wrappers. They are divided by subject (ink, paper, color) and the specimens meticulously printed in a sumptuous array of color ink on variously colored papers with elaborate designs and borders, often heightened in gold and silver. Tipped into many of the sections are engravings, silhouettes, paper specimens from Europe and the Far East, menus, and programs. A table bound in the rear helps identify the designs in the text and identifies the paper on which they are printed. For a detailed collation see Vicaire IV, page 1154. OCLC lists three copies. A fascinating, scarce, and important work on the history of printing, paper, and graphic design.
