Ireland was attempting to determine the value of a gold-mine owned by a client in Colorado. The first letter, from E.D. Keyes of San Francisco, explains that his son can survey the mine, but only if granted three-quarters control of the property. The second item, a contemporary copy of a letter from D.C. Crawford, states that the property bears "strong indications of an immense body of ore at no great depth."
