Includes: 15 vintage photographs of interiors and some lovely shots of the launch, most in 7x10 inch format, a few smaller. 1938-39 Company-issued large format brochure, with many full-page color illustrations, issued in August 1939, a month before the proposed maiden voyage Special number of "L'Atlantique-Sud," devoted to the ship and with many illustrations of the building of the ship (probably 1937 or 1938) 09 September 1939 issue of "L'Illustration," with much on the ship; in a modern cloth binding with the original wrappers bound in and more.
The outbreak of the war prevented the maiden voyage for passenger service. She left Brest for Halifax as a troop ship in August 1940. In 1957 she was bought by North German Lloyd and re-entered service after a refitting as the "Bremen" in July 1959.
