Additional Details

Ben Rose (1916-80) was credited with bringing photography into the computer age. An advertising photographer who was one of the first practitioners to explore electronic technologies, Rose married elements of industrial photography with those of conceptual fine art. In 1978, he used an analog computer (which he programmed himself) to control his photographs through dozens of steps and complex lighting patterns. His last major project, a campaign for Otis Elevator, was based on conceptually abstract stroboscopics. This print was formerly in the collection of the president of Otis Elevator Corp.
