Additional Details

Mitchell was a popular writer on rustic themes who often used the pseudonym Ik Marvel. Several of his books shared anecdotes from Edgewood, his country estate outside of New Haven, CT. This book brought those scenes to life with nine photographic views by George G. Rockwood, a photographic portrait of Mitchell, a two-page folding aerial map of the estate, and two chromolithographed views of the estate before and after his improvements. Dumbarton Oaks, American Garden Literature 281; not in Goldschmidt and Nef's Truthful Lens. None traced at auction since a Swann sale, 11 November 1976, lot 277.
