Large archive of correspondence written to Daniel Brown from his six children over the course of several decades. Daniel Brown (1747-1832), a merchant who served in the Revolutionary War, subsequently retired to a farm in Hebron, CT in 1803 (a letter herein expresses his eldest son's disapproval of that decision). He married Anna Phelps, and together they had six children. The eldest and youngest sons, Daniel Bishop and Henry, both graduated from Yale College and went on to careers in law; Henry also authored a history of Illinois. A third son, Samuel, likewise became a lawyer of some note. Ephraim Brown studied medicine and became a doctor, while a fifth son, Thomas, became a farmer and cared for his aging parents at the family farm (there do not appear to be any letters from Thomas, for obvious reasons). A daughter, Sarah, also has letters present here. Contents concern family business and health, notably the rapid decline of Anna's eyesight, though she outlived Daniel by several years; and the unexpected death of Daniel Bishop Brown in 1822 at the age of 42 years.
