Additional Details

The half-title bears an illustration of the Constitutional Convention, probably by John Norman: "If not the first graphic representation ever made of it, is certainly a very early one"--Hamilton, Early American Book Illustrators 121. The cut is captioned with a short poem titled "The Grand Convention": "Our honour'd fathers sit / And knowledge ruling at the helm / They wisely point to every realm / The rocks on which they've split."
Near the back of the almanac is a page-long account of the Ohio Country, then just opening to settlement. Concerning the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, where Cleveland would be built: "It will hereafter be a place of great importance." On the following page is a plan of what would soon become Marietta, Ohio's first city. Drake 3403; Evans 20860; Snyder, City of Independence 253.
