Apparently gathered by or presented to General Alfred M. Gruenther, since a few are inscribed to him. Standard size, plain-back. Np, circa 1942
The names include some of the all-time greatest players, including Charles Goren, Sam Stayman, Ely Culbertson, Sidney Lenz, and Howard Schenken. Gruenther, to whom many of the cards are inscribed, served as a Chief of Staff during World War II under Eisenhower and Clark, and later as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
