Deck of playing cards Signed by more than 40 members of the New York Bridge Whist Club, the Cavendish Bridge Club and the Dauphin Bridge Club, Signed at an A.C.B.L. tournament, some signed several to a card, others individually. Apparently gathered by or presented to General Alfred M. Gruenther, since a few are inscribed to him. Standard size, plain-back. Np, circa 1942

The names include some of the all-time greatest players, including Charles Goren, Sam Stayman, Ely Culbertson, Sidney Lenz, and Howard Schenken. Gruenther, to whom many of the cards are inscribed, served as a Chief of Staff during World War II under Eisenhower and Clark, and later as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
