Additional Details

A rare compilation of early views of Costa Rica by Harrison N. Rudd, whose photography studio is pictured in the album. Costa Rica blossomed in the 1880s with the increased exporting of coffee and bananas. By 1890, an American plantation owner and entrepeneur completed a railroad which afforded access to the nation's barely accessible interior.
