Album containing 40 post-mortem photographs compiled by Dr. Edward E. Smith, the coroner for Franklin County, Ohio. With gruesome scenes of murder victims: including a woman whose throat has been slashed; bystanders looking at the body of an African-American male; arson (in which the victim died in bed); the remains of men whose bodies were recovered, after two years, in an automobile buried in the Scipto River; a castrated victim; variant images of an African-American baby, who was strangled (and the woman's long hair is still around his neck) and others of a well-dressed female in a field; a couple shown in the basement of their home; a worker who was killed in the driver's seat of his car; and many more graphic and disturbing pictures. Silver prints, most are approximately 7x8 inches (17.8x20.3 cm.), 2 are 4 1/2x3 1/2 inches (11.4x8.9 cm.), 3 with Smith's facsimile signature hand stamp on recto. Small folio, green cloth; ties.
