Additional Details

The subtitle reads 'Given in his own words two days before his execution, and printed by his request, for the benefit of his only child, a boy of about eight years of age.' The long rambling narrative spares no details, but in short: Hall encountered his former landlord Hinton while drinking. Hinton asked angrily about a door that went missing when Hall moved out, and then knocked Hall down with a plow beam. When Hall regained consciousness he chased Hinton down and shot him. One copy in OCLC, at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library; not in Byrd's Illinois Imprints and none traced at auction.
