On the first page appears the complete death sentence read to Dave Rudabaugh in nearby Santa Fe. Rudabaugh was a veteran outlaw who had been captured alongside Billy the Kid. He soon escaped while his appeal was pending, and caused trouble with the Clanton Gang for five more years before a gunfight in Mexico ended his life.
