Webster was a mild-mannered Harvard chemistry professor with financial problems who killed one of his creditors in 1849. This letter was written to a sympathizer while Webster awaited trial. Though he expresses resignation over his fate, Webster asks his friend to ignore "the rumours and reports that are made up for the newspapers on no foundation whatever of truth." with--an Autograph Letter Signed by Webster''s victim, Dr. George Parkman, to the Selectmen of Charlestown.
