Long after Great Britain had moved to stop the traffic in African slaves, privateers continued to smuggle slaves into Cuba and Florida. In these documents, the Spanish governor of Sagua, Captain Gral reports to his superiors in Havana. He stresses the urgency of increasing the naval presence along the coast. Included are three early telegrams with the words cut and pasted on a large sheet of paper. Slavery was not abolished in Cuba until 1886.
