On October 19, 1959, Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro delivered a welcoming speech at the Teatro Blanquita in Havana (today the Karl Marx Theatre) where the American Society of Travel Agents was holding its 29th annual convention. In the evening, many convention attendees went to Castro's reception held at the El Capitolio, where the Prime Minister and Raúl Castro signed autographs.
