Additional Details

This twin-screw vessel began her maiden voyage on 04 January 1949. She had been christened the previous year by the royal crown princess Elizabeth. After her rechristening as the "Caribia," she managed only two voyages before breaking apart. Much controversy followed and the ship was finally sold for scrapping in Taiwan. Most of her furnishings were sold previous to her departure to the scrap heap. She never reached Taiwan, sinking off Guam during a storm. Some her furnishings ended up at the One Fifth Avenue restaurant, where they perfectly complemented the Art Deco décor of the restaurant.
