The twin-screw "Mauretania" began its maiden voyage on 17 June 1939. She had completed only two voyages before the war erupted. During the war she served as a troopship. After the war she returned to trans-Atlantic service. Though not as famous as her predecessor of the same name, she gave long and faithful service to Cunard.
