Additional Details

Home on leave from the War, Custer met Libbie at a Thanksgiving party and began courting her against the wishes of her family. "Nearing her twentieth birthday as well as her graduation from Boyd's Seminary, she was considered the prettiest girl in Monroe . . . Yet in a letter to a friend Libbie wrote, 'I don't care for him except as an escort'"--Frost, The Custer Album, page 33.
