Smith from Company D, with an Autograph Notation Signed by Merrill written at the top of the document, indicating that Smith "Engaged in the action against hostile Sioux in the Battle of Little Big Horn June 25th 1876 and commanded six good indians in the face of the enemy." 1 page, approximately 91/2x73/4 inches.
