". . . I will make every effort in my power to procure the relics of the late Gen. Custer, of which you speak. Nothing, I assure you, would afford me greater pleasure than to find and restore to you these treasures so highly prized by you, and in that manner express in some slight degree the sympathy I, in common with the entire country, feel for you in the death of your brave husband. I have described all the articles mentioned in your letter to some friendly Uncpapas who promise to bring them to me if they can be found. I think I have traces of the pistol . . ."
