THE MIGHTY OTTOMAN ARMADA DEPICTED (CYPRUS.) Jenichen, Balthasar. Warhafftige Co[n]terfettung der Turckischen Armata von Balleenn und andern Schiffen Dreihundert wie solche dess 1570 Jars in Ordnunge wider die Venedische Lendt ist aussgefahren. Exceptionally scarce engraved German broadside of the Ottoman fleet sailing to Venetian-controlled Cyprus in 1570, on two sheets joined. 375x460 mm, wide original margins; small portions of marginal staining, a sliver of loss from right margin into the image professionally (perhaps contemporaneously?) reinstated, left margin reinforced on verso, two small wormholes in the image. Presents well. [Nuremberg, circa 1570s]

Additional Details

With English supplied title (seemingly misunderstanding the event depicted) in ink manuscript just below image: "The representation of the Turkish Navall Army in ye year 1570 going forth to meet the Venetian fleet." Not in Stylianou, but additional battle views and maps of the Venetian-Ottoman War by Jenichen are featured there. Jenichen and compatriot Matthias Zündt took particular interest in the conflict and produced views and maps of it that equaled and surpassed those of their Italian counterparts. Hollstein XL B, 128.
