number 28 of 200 copies, all printed on japan paper. Published by Henry Floury for Les Bibliophiles Indépendents, of which Octave Uzanne was artistic director. It is thought by Art Nouveau specialists to be the most elaborate and successful of their works. These fifteen stories of the macabre and fantastic by Schwob are here illustrated by de Feure, famous for his poster designs for l'Estampe Moderne, with "supreme mastery of the supple line and floral motifs of Art Nouveau decoration"--Ray, The Art of the French Illustrated Book, 367. The hand-colored "tripti-frontispiece" engraved on metal, shows an upper gateway design that opens to a highly decorative triptych of "La fille du moulin." Carteret IV, 361.
