Additional Details

D. Kimberly, engraver. Engraving, 13½ x 11¼ inches; moderate toning and dampstaining. pairs the text of the Declaration with an engraving of Trumbull's depiction of the signing, the signatures being keyed below to Trumbull. The decorative border includes the state seals through Michigan, and the nine presidents through William Henry Harrison at top center. President Harrison certainly narrows down the production date pretty tightly. Bidwell, Declaration in Script and Print 38 (5th state); Hart, Portraits of Washington 589b. Boston: James Fisher, 1841.

George Girdler Smith, engraver. Engraved broadside, 11¾ x 9¾ inches; toned, minor wear. Fourth and final state showing the first 12 presidents through Zachary Taylor. The Declaration is rendered in small calligraphic text above facsimile signatures, surrounded by an elaborate decorative border depicting the seals of the 13 original states. Bidwell 20; Hart 590 (for the later editions). Bidwell, Declaration in Script and Print 39 (4th state). [Boston]: George G. Smith, circa 1849.
