Tyler, a penmanship instructor, produced the first engraving of the Declaration. His reproduction is noted for the remarkable exactness of the facsimile signatures. The original subscription book for the sale of the print, located in the Small Collection at the University of Virginia, contains the names of over 1000 subscribers (including Thomas Jefferson).
