(DEGENERATE ART SHOW) Group of 6 real photo postcards depicting installation views of the first "Entartete Kunst" show, in Munich, 4 are credited to Heinrich Hoffmann and 2 to H. Karsten; and an 8vo-sized broadside, in Gothic script, advertising the exhibition (which was located at Hofgarten-Urfaden, Galeriestrasse 4). Silver prints with scalloped edges, 3 3/4x5 1/2 inches (8.9x14 cm.), with the photographers' credits imprinted on verso along with the publisher's address (in Munich); the broadside printed on an orange sheet measuring 7 3/4x5 1/4 inches (18.4x13.3 cm.). 1937

The first with excerpts from Hitler's speeches juxtaposed to the artworks, and the second with art from the show repoduced alongside examples of works endorsed by the Third Reich. 8vo and 4to, original pictorial wrappers and printed cloth, light wear. Includes: 1. Entrance to the exhibition, with a quote form George Grosz mockingly displayed, "Nehmen Sie Dada ernst! Es lohnt sich!" [Take Dada seriously! It's worth it!]; 2. Another view of the exhibition, with numerous paintings, including a large painting by Beckmann entitled "Der Strand;" 3. A painting of two women, one of whom appears to be a prostitute; 4. A Cubist painting; 5. A painting of Christ's body being removed from the cross; and 6. A portrait of a ghoulish-looking woman in a hat. Published to accompany the infamous exhibition "Entartete Kunst [Degenerate Art]," which launched in Munich and subsequently traveled to various cities throughout Germany; this rare catalog is illustrated with reproductions of art which did not reflect the National Socialist Party's aesthetic ideal. Works by Otto Dix, E. L. Kirchner, Morgner, Nolde, K. Eisner, Schmidt-Rottluff, George Grosz, Paul Klee, and others are reproduced.
