Doré's tour-de-force and the work that cemented his reputation as a great artist of the High Romantic era. He completed the Bible at the age of 34 having already achieved fame and financial success from his illustrations for Dante's Commedia, Cervantes's Don Quixote, and the works of Rabelais.
