A serious and somewhat pensive portrait. Cataloged in "Picturing Frederick Douglass" as portrait 29, tracing only one example at the Amistad Center for Art & Culture. Douglass was in Chicago to deliver two lectures just across the street from Fassett's studio on 25 and 28 February 1864 (page 24).
