Calligraphic introduction in ink within a decorative watercolor border on vellum, 20 double-page manuscript maps on vellum each with leaves of explanatory text on laid paper, several incomplete maps by the same hand on smaller sheets of laid paper loosely inserted. Folio, 21 1/2x15 inches, contemporary tooled and paneled calf over wooden boards with brass clasps, rubbed and worn; maps bright and clean, several pulling loose from binding. Netherlands, circa 1743-1744

Beautifully drawn survey maps of estates and properties in the Netherlands and Belgium. The surveyed plots describe the forests, fields, water, roads, houses and churches of the surrounding areas. Each map is adorned with a large colorful compass rose and a decorative scale of rods. The manuscript introductory leaf is dated 1743/1744.
