Albrecht Dürers Christlich-Mythologische Handzeichnungen. 46 lithographed plates, comprising title, portrait of Dürer, calligraphic preface, and 43 borders redrawn by Strixner after Dürer, each printed in single color to match the originals; one-leaf letterpress plate list at end. Folio, 398x302 mm, later 19th-century 1/2 vellum, spine partly darkened; contents unobtrusively washed with residual foxing on title, preface leaf, and several plates, repaired clean tear in plate 25. Additional Details

first edition of a facsimile of Dürer's historiated border designs for the 1513 Book of Hours printed for Emperor Maximilian; first state of plate 19, with the original misnumbering corrected in manuscript. This was the first major work by Strixner (1782-1855), who pioneered the use of lithography for the reproduction of Old Master drawings and paintings.
