Additional Details

Second American edition, preceded only by the quite scarce 1677 Boston edition. The preface to this abridged edition, dated just a month after Lexington, includes rhetoric about the undermanned colonists overcoming the powerful Indians. It notes that "we of this province . . . have been called to defend our lives and properties against the incursions of more distant savages," and concludes with a prayer that "wars may forever cease." "A corner-stone authority on the subject"--Howes H756. Evans 14120; Sabin 33447.
