Additional Details

Three dramatic earthquakes struck in late 1755: a ferocious 1 November earthquake which destroyed much of Lisbon, Portugal; an 18 November earthquake off the coast of Massachusetts which was the most severe in the state's history; and another deadly quake in Morocco on 29 November. With the science behind earthquakes still largely unknown, this series of 13 sermons by a Boston Congregationalist minister offers a theological response to these catastrophic events. Evans 8667; Sabin 47143 (neither calling for the final ad leaf). Only one other traced at auction since a Swann sale, 11 September 1997.
