Additional Details

Anthony Benezet (1713-1784) was a Philadelphia Quaker and one of America's first prominent abolitionists. His first and best-known work, "Observations on the Inslaving, Importing, and Purchasing of Negroes," is included here in a partial copy. In 1760, Benezet also edited a compilation of three of these essays, plus six additional ones, under the collective title "A Collection of Devotional Tracts," with Franklin attributed as printer (see Miller 730). The present volume may have been related to Benezet's compilation.
