First German-language edition of a 1667 English tract titled "Life of God in the Soul of Man." It was commissioned by an evangelical group led by the Rev. William Smith, the University of Pennsylvania provost. Smith soon parted ways with Franklin after making a series of heated attacks on the colony's Quaker leadership, including a suggestion that one good way to be rid of the Quakers would be "by cutting their Throats.'
