Additional Details

A mixed edition of an important early set, in a uniform binding. The first volume is titled "La Prima Parte dell'Historie del Peru," the second Italian edition of the complete 1553 work by Pedro de Cieza de León, translated into Italian by Mauro, published in Venice by Ziletti in 1560. This "Part I" was followed by Mauro's translation of Francisco López de Gómara's 1553 "Historia General de las Indias" as Parts II and III in 1565 and 1566. In the present set, Part II is replaced by an earlier Italian translation, "La Seconda Parte delle Historie Generali dell'India," published in Venice by Arrivabene in 1557. Finally, "La Terza Parte delle Historie dell'Indie" is the final half of the Mauro translation of Gómara which was published to accompany "La Primera Parte," published in Venice by Ziletti in 1566.
