Additional Details

An eccentric and wide-ranging work, generally a tribute to the economic might of New York and America. The first half is mostly devoted to a catalogue of the world's wealthiest families, arranged by approximate net worth, with brief essays on many of them. This is followed by a 28-page satire in verse, then a further catalogue of the wealthy, and finally a 56-page essay in opposition to John Brown and abolitionism titled "Shall Fanaticism Ruin the Country?" We know of no other copies at auction.
