This unlikely group of four famous friends--an inventor, two industrialists, and a naturalist--took summer camping trips together from 1914 to 1924, in various combinations. The four only travelled together in 1918 (Appalachian Mountains), 1919 (upstate New York and New England), and 1920 (the Burroughs home in the Catskill Mountains in New York). Some or all of these images date from August 1919, when the group travelled to a Ford plant under construction in Green Island, NY, and carved their initials into the cornerstone. One image shows the party at the Cheshire House in Keene, NH, and another shows Firestone playing piano for Ford on a rustic patio. The other images can't easily be placed, but show the four and their friends camping, riding horses, and generally having a grand old time.
