Additional Details

The New Era Educational Association was founded in 1917 by what the West Chester Daily Local News called "a group of Negro graduates of the West Chester Normal School" (31 January 1925). The school is now West Chester University, the alma mater of First Lady Jill Biden.

This is the first (and perhaps only) issue of the association's official publication. It features articles on art appreciation, school orchestras, and "Adult Education for Colored People." A short travel article describes "Seeing Southeast Alaska." Pioneering Black psychologist and educator John Henry Brodhead, who served on the association's Finance Committee, also contributed a long article on "The Normal Colored Child." A long list of the association's members closes out the magazine.
