Additional Details

Kittrell College was an historically black two-year junior college in north-central North Carolina, founded in 1886. In 1924, Duke University underwent a major renovation and donated three of its old campus buildings to Kittrell, which took several years to accomplish. Included here are images of several campus buildings, including the old Duke Library under (re)construction, and numerous group shots of students and staff. All appear to date from the same period, with the exception of a portrait of 5 young men on an original worn mount, which appears to date from circa 1900-1910. The college closed in 1975, but the campus is still in use as a Job Corps training center.
