A magnificent album of American scenery, with a group of 37 photographs taken in the early days of Hampton Institute in Virginia, founded in 1868 by General Samuel Armstrong. This group includes some rare images of African American students and faculty. There are some very interesting images in the remainder of the album, including one of a group of Civil War soldiers around a tent.
