Additional Details

Though not specific in the text, this is a study of one-room schoolhouses in Depression era Georgia. it resembles something which might have been prepared for the WPA. The writer states, "We are advocating the 'back to the farm movement' for the Negro and yet it is in the country that he is most exploited and deprived of advantages. He finds nothing there but drudgery, no recreation, but a continual grind . . ." The schools are illustrated by original photographs. Each photograph is preceded by a partly-printed form accomplished by hand which gives details about the school and the equipment found there, e.g. "erasers," "desks--a few old ones and benches." An eye-opening view of education in rural Georgia during the Depression.<
