The Phelps Vocational High School was founded in 1912 and named after Seth Ledyard Phelps, an American Civil War naval officer. The School specialized in teaching young African American males in the trades of printing, bricklaying, carpentry etc. The School began to accept girls in 1943 when it became the Phelps Career High School. These photos show various events as school life in the 1950's.
