(EDUCATION.) Pair of photographs of staff and students at the Strong Academy in Georgia. Each 3¼ x 5½ inches; uncaptioned, minimal wear. [Augusta, GA, 1910]

Additional Details

These photographs were taken by philanthropist Helen Clay Frick during her visit to the Strong Academy, attached to the Shiloh Orphanage in Augusta, GA which she had helped establish. In one view, the Strong Academy sign can be seen faintly in the background. The woman with the white skirt is believed to be Silvie McHorton; the man at upper left of the larger group is believed to be her husband Superintendent Daniel McHorton. The only other examples we can trace of these two images are in a 1910 album kept by Helen Clay Frick, and held by the Frick Collection.
