only the third catalogue issued by the school, with just 10 graduating in the senior class. Tuskegee was officially founded on July 4th, 1881, with Booker T. Washington, then 25-year-old teacher, as its first principal. The school began as the Normal School for Colored Teachers at Tuskegee in a tiny space at the Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. A year later, it was moved to the grounds of a vacant plantation that Washington had purchased. Alabama and Porter Hall, the first two buildings, were designed and built by the students themselves, and are illustrated on the inside wrappers. very scarce. oclc does not locate any copies. only one copy is located of the 1882 catalogue.
