Obtained from and with a letter of provenance from the estate of Booker T. Washington's great-great-granddaughter, Robin Washington Banks, attesting to the provenance of this document and others. Tuskegee, circa 1883

Additional Details

An amendment to the original 1881 act establishing Tuskegee by the Alabama State Legislature. The changes in the act provide for free education to all who would commit to teaching in the rural schools of the state for a period of two years following graduation, and certification. There are several corrections in the text regarding the apportionment of funds. A note at the end of this document reads 'Approved February 16, 1883.'
